Healthy Snack Day

Wednesday is Healthy Snack day at the Simonian Center.  Each year we have changed things up a bit in regards to how we acknowledge this designated day.  Over the years we have promoted this day in various ways.  One year we simply announced the day; another, we graphed healthy snacks and the class with the highest percentage for the month won an Edible Arrangement.  This year, Mrs. Mooney, our cafeteria manager, has stepped in to help promote this special day.  With the support of the PTO, Mrs. Mooney will prepare a school-wide healthy snack once a month.  Simonian Center students will have snack in the elementary cafeteria (this is a big deal since we never eat on "this side" of the cafeteria).  All students will have the opportunity to eat a healthy snack in celebration of Healthy Snack Day.

Some ideas for packing healthy snacks:

                      Fresh or frozen fruit                              Pretzels
Veggies with low fat dip, cheese, or salad dressing
                      Yogurt or Gogurt                                   Applesauce
                      Rice Cakes                                           Granola Bars
Baked Tortilla Chips with Salsa            OR

Click here for some "ideas" from our first grade friends!

Involve your child in the snack choice.  As with so many things in life, we tend to do better when involved in the process.  Happy Healthy Snacking!

Early Arrival and Dismissal
Reminder about early arrival and dismissal of students . . . .

Arrival: Students may enter classrooms at 8:15 AM. Students that arrive to school between 8:00 – 8:15 AM must wait in their respective school lobby until it is time to go to class.

For safety and supervision reasons, students are not to be dropped off before 8:00 AM. Families participating in the parent drop off line are to pull up to the crosswalk for children to exit the cars. Vehicles stopping at the walkway rather than pulling up causes traffic to back up. If your child needs assistance exiting the vehicle, please park your car in the side parking lot and escort your child to the sidewalk.

Dismissal: Our day ends at 2:45 PM. Changes to dismissal plans must be in place by 2:00 PM in order to ensure notification to all involved. Late dismissal changes affect accuracy of our dismissal procedure of 900 students. If unforeseen incidents occur which cause you to be late, please call the school office. Students waiting are often nervous and are reassured when we can relay a message that Mom or Dad is on the way.

Thank you for your cooperation.
